Reclaiming California

$8/Gallon for Gasoline

Velaro has closed its gasoline refinery in Brea. You can thank the California leadership in Sacramento for this mismanagement of a valuable resource.

This high cost of gas means for most of us having to spend a great deal more money to go to work and/or carry on our normal daily activities. Gas costs substantially more here than in any other state. According to AAA as of Nov. 2025 California Regular is $4.64/Gal, and $5.17 for Diesel. The national average is $3.38 for Regular.

See our "Action Page" for suggestions on how you can play a part in bringing positive change to this situation.

What Does Our Name "Cal Grit" mean?

"Cal" refers to our once golden state of California.

"Grit" can have a couple of very different meanings:

  1. It can refer to sandpaper or to something that has a rough texture like sand rubbing on your skin.

  2. Another meaning, which is what we are applying here, has to do with our human personalities. Someone with Grit is courageous, has backbone, stamina, endurance and resolution. Tackling the challenges we are undertaking will require this kind of "GRIT" to survive and to achieve our goals.

For too many the "California Dream" has turned into a nightmare. Corrosive forces in our state government leadership have turned our once beautiful state into a garbage dump. As a result many people and businesses have left. We choose instead to stay and no longer tolerate the slow death of a once "Golden State".

Humans should not have to live in squalor but that is the existence for far too many people in our state including military veterans.

For us to bring meaningful change it will require a shift in attitude for many of us. We, the citizens, can no longer leave the running of the state to the "Professionals" who to a large extent have created the problem. This change can come when we decide to become informed and get involved and get a lot smarter about how we undertake this battle.

Cal Grit is here to assist in this battle--if you have had enough but don't choose to run away.

What has happened to California ?

The Exodus From California

During Governor Gavin Newsom's administration, California has experienced significant population loss, with over 200,000 residents leaving the state between 2023 and 2024 alone. Overall, from 2010 through 2023, about 9.2 million people moved away from California to other states.

Where else in the world can you be water-boarding in the Pacific Ocean in the morning and then only a few hours later play in the Sierra snow?---and all the while enjoying one of the best climates in the world!

California is an economic power-house that is worth saving!

California is one of the world's largest economies, fueled by trade and exports that support nearly 5.1 million jobs in the state. California exports $368 billion worth of goods and services annually, led by the state's thriving agriculture and technology manufacturing industry. But it isn't just big business that benefits-- 95% of all California exporters are small and medium-sized businesses. And those small businesses are a major source for jobs which benefit all of us.

However . . .

California's Slippery Slope

As we look around we witness things in California getting worse and worse

Many people and businesses have left the state; we wish them well.
But there are also many of us who choose to stay. For those of us who wish to stay we have some decisions to make. We can either watch California get less and less desirable, or we can choose to push back. It's kind of like buying some high quality salmon you plan to prepare for your dinner and on the way home you stop by a florist and get a beautiful bouquet of flowers for the dinner table. Instead of putting the salmon in the refrigerator you just lay it on the table and look at it for awhile and then go to bed. The next morning on the kitchen table the fish is now probably beyond edible and some of the flowers are wilted. And day after day we watch the once beautiful salmon and flowers deteriorate more and more. That is what too many of us Californians have been doing concerning the health of our state. Apparently we choose to stand by and only watch as our once beautiful state decays more and more and more.

One of the purposes of our CalGrit.com web site is to thoughtfully and peacefully give you some different choices where you can begin to join us in accepting responsibility and work to stop the decay and give that dying corpse a chance to live again and even possibly flourish. We are committed to providing you with accurate information so you can understand what is taking place, and how and where you can be part of a solution.
At the same time there seem to be people behind the scenes who are encouraging and even in some cases financing the destruction of our American way of life. They seem to hate America and they want to exterminate the freedoms we enjoy.
A recent example of this destruction in some of our larger cities is gangs of young people pillaging and looting stores and destroying private property. They are willing to hurt or even kill those who get in their way and they have no regard for the police who are charged with the responsibility to protect the rest of us.
The public is led to believe these riots are spontaneous, but upon further examination they really appear to be organized on a national level.
Unfortunately our liberal left-leaning state legislature is willing to gut Proposition 36 which was passed with over 70% voter approval in Nov. 2024. Proposition 36 changed convictions for smash-and-grab robberies (and the sale of Fentanyl to minors) to felonies instead of misdemeanors. That means these offenders could face serious jail time if convicted of these crimes. But now there is a bill, AB 2108, which is winding its way through the legislature. If it is also approved in the Senate it could unravel the solutions stated in Proposition 36. AB 2108 would allow these offenders to go to diversion programs instead of facing jail time. Basically that's a slap on the wrist instead of being a serious deterrent. See our Blog # 8 for more details on Proposition 36 and AB 2108.

In our blog # 8 you will also understand how AB 2108 by the California Legislature is a rebuttal to the will of the voters.
